The Deer hunter

By admin in communication

I like this remixed poster of The Deer Hunter.
It’s made by Olly Moss who just graduated as a design student.

But what I like most is _the idea of_ remixing (they call it remixing, it’s just re-doing really) movie posters.
This is the original poster:

The difference between the original poster and the remixed poster is you can only appreciate the remixed one if you’ve already seen the movie.
So it’s a poster inciting people to watch the movie again. Which is a whole different dynamic.
The communication strategy of the original poster can be pretty much summed up as: “It’s gotta be good it’s got Robert Deniro in it”
While the remixed poster taps into the collective memory by visualizing the most memorable scene of the movie.
If I’d seen this poster in 1978 it would’ve done nothing to me. But now, I really want to watch it again.

  1. Kantman says:

    Great reflection!

    - they feel good because they connect the bullets
    - they feel different because others don’t
    - they feel desire because the best parts of the movie flash by in nostalgia

    BOOM, re-purchase.
    I love this post.
