Just read an interesting interview with a doctor in some local rag. When asked what’s his main advice for a healthy life his answer was:
-Quit smoking and buy a dog.
The smoking thing’s obvious, but the reasoning behind the dog is the following: Once you have a dog, you need to take him for a walk several times a day. Giving you the needed physical exercise but it also forces you to go outside and socialize, which is good for your mental health .
I thought that was a great solution. It’s better than buy sneakers or a bike, because a lot of people have done that but there’s no other commitment to actually using them than the guilt of having spent the money. With a dog you think you buy a cute little puppy, but what you’re getting is a commitment you can’t get out of.
Or to use a paradigm from Old-skool marketing, where the adage goes “Sell the hole, not the drill.” this is:
Sell a frame, not the drill.
